"The art of reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China. The therapy was introduced to the West in the early 1900s, when Dr William Fitzgerald developed 'Zone therapy'. He believed that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to corresponding areas and organs of the body within the same zone. In the 1930's, Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what we recognise as modern Reflexology. The principles work equally well on the feet, hands and face.
Put simply, reflexology is a deep, healing foot treatment that's really so much more than just a massage.
There are 7,000 nerve endings on each foot, so working on the feet can trigger a relaxation response. Reflexology also increases circulation which can help to support the body right down to the cellular level.
Specific areas on the feet and hands (the reflexes) correspond to different parts of the body and by applying pressure to all these reflexes in a sequence, the body's natural flow of energy is balanced, restored and maintained. This increase in energy clears any congestion, removes toxins and encourages the body's own healing ability.
Reflexology focuses on the balancing, calming or stimulation of reflexes using only pressure provided by fingers, thumbs and knuckles in a manner prescribed by a Code of Practice and the individual needs of the client.
Reflexologists can not diagnose or claim to cure any medical conditions.
